Former Anoka County Sheriff and current executive director and CEO of the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association James Stuart has been nominated for US Marshall for the District of Minnesota, by President Trump. That’s good right? After all he was recommended by Minnesota Republicans for the job, one of which is US House Majority Whip Tom Emmer. What could go wrong?
I did some digging into James Stuart, to see if he had any public position on the Second Amendment. And yes, he does. I found one. And based off his statement, he’s what we in the 2A movement commonly refer to as a “fudd” and “butter”.
Here’s the statement, and I’ll post some quotes below,
However, more stringent gun control alone will not resolve the problems of escalating gun violence in our society. We need to take a comprehensive approach to this highly complex issue.
I would support expanded gun safety programs, improved mental health treatment, and an expansion of the background investigation process when obtaining a permit to carry.
I fully support the stance recently taken by the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association as well as that of the National Sheriff’s Association, which strongly support the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.
(That’s double talk.)
I am NOT willing to support, condone, or conduct any type of weapon confiscation or effort to disarm citizens.
(More double talk. He’s against “confiscation” and disarmament, just as long as the citizen is forced to abide by HIS other infringements.)
As county sheriffs, we do not have authority to enforce federal laws, as they are not within our jurisdiction.
(What about immigration laws?)
As you can see he’s a problem. Even more so as a US Marshall. I’m sure he’s made other public statements, but I couldn’t find any. I’ll be posting this on X and tagging Trump, and the Republicans who recommended him.
Don’t fall for the “Republicans are pro 2A” bit. Always do some digging before you voice your support or vote. With the internet, you can usually get a good idea of where a public figure stands in a few minutes or less.
Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
