More Ideas For Fixing 2A Task Force (Codrea)

Related to this, https://2awhiterook.com/possible-fixes-for-2a-task-force-codrea/ David Codrea posted a very detailed piece on his site, https://waronguns.com/the-task-at-hand/ and I encourage you to click on the links he includes.

One which stood out was, https://americanhandgunner.com/our-experts/gun-owners-for-trump-should-be-more-than-campaign-window-dressing/ for a couple reasons, the sections, ‘Realistic Expectations’ and ‘Government Support?’

For realistic expectations, we must keep the pressure on, yet, not be shooting for the moon either. One of the problems we’ve seen, comes largely from 2A groups, who promise their members grand things, now that Trump’s back in office, and those grand things have amounted to nothing, the Hearing Protection Act (HPA) for instance, being watered down to the point of being irrelevant. And SHORT being forgotten about all together. Those 2A groups should’ve been honest enough with their members from the start that even with Republican majorities and a Republican president, the votes just weren’t there.

As long as we must suffer under an ATF, we must have a… Who’s in charge? That’s not a facetious question either. The sworn Secretary of the Army, Dan Driscoll, is also the acting director of the ATF. Yes you read that right, the Secretary of the Army is also the acting director of ATF. With that in mind, how can Driscoll, reign in this un-Constitutional agency, staffed by some of the worst tyrannical rats in Washington D.C., if he must spend, no doubt much more time as Secretary of the Army, than acting ATF director? It can’t be done. No matter how good or bad Driscoll is, no one can wear two hats that massive at the same time.

“Abolish the ATF” may be good for 2A groups to rack up donations and “likes” on un-social media, but we haven’t the political power to do so. And, if we did, laws like NFA, GCA, Hughes, 4473/NICS and countless others are still in place. Then what? Do we really want the FBI taking over? Then there’s talk of Trump wanting to merge ATF with DEA, which is boneheaded to say the least.

Now here’s where Codrea’s idea of a ‘Office for Second Amendment Protection’ would come in. Headed by Vance, and filled with “influencers”, they could point out to Trump, that ATF, no matter how much we hate it, must have a full time director. Also, things like reversing Bush Sr’s semi auto import restrictions, or suggesting Trump order military base commanders to allow GI’s to carry personal weapons on bases, or reversing the Obama/Hillary ban on the importation of M1 rifles and carbines from places like South Korea, https://www.ammoland.com/2025/09/trump-could-open-door-to-another-source-for-m1-garands-with-executive-action/ or https://www.ammoland.com/2025/08/trump-asked-to-remember-pledge-about-military-base-victim-disarmament-policies/ and while we’re at it, what about the Army Corp Of Engineers being allowed to ban guns on public land? https://www.ammoland.com/2025/09/donald-trump-can-rein-in-army-corps-of-engineers-on-guns/

An ‘Office for Second Amendment Protection’, would draw up policy proposals, and executive orders and hand them to Trump for him to review and sign. Imagine what tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of M1 rifles and carbines would do both for the Second Amendment and for 2A politics if Secretary of State Rubio was both allowed and ordered to broker deals all over the world to bring them back to the US and deliver them to the Civilian Marksmanship Program? Why stop with long guns, what about 1911’s?

Other things, which could be addressed would be correcting the Trump admin’s idea on merging ATF with DEA… Boneheaded to say the least. Also, the Trump admin’s idea of a “trans” gun ban without any due process, could’ve been nipped in the bud, before it ever was floated publicly, they seem to have backed away from that idea now but still, it could’ve been avoided all together.

And now, the big one, the ATF’s national gun registry. Officially they have around one billion records. Obviously if they admit to one billion, they have a couple billion more. That can be resolved, without Congress. Pam Bondi sends a team to ATF with burn barrels for their hard copies and digital copies. Simple. But people need to have Trump and Bondi’s ear. Despite public assurances, the 2A groups do not seem to have either the presidents nor the attorney generals ear.

And if that’s not the route chosen, say it’s FACA, Federal Advisory Committee Act, all the same could happen. What if AG Bondi, was in a room, with representatives from all the national 2A groups? What if 2A groups all were members of the committee? Why not throw in a few “influences” AKA “gun-tubers”, and some 2A writers while we’re at it? One thing though, we probably want to put a cap on committee membership though. If we have too many people at the table, it’ll all be noise, and not enough policy recommendations. Think of a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and how loud they can be with just a dozen people at the table. And how much louder they get when there’s two dozen. Remember the corporate average for a board of directors is only around a dozen.

I’d suggest there’d be one member from each of the national 2A groups, I think that’s five? NRA, GOA, SAF, FPC, and NAGR… Am I forgetting one? I’m not sure NSSF should be there, since they’re the true gun lobby, and I think the focus should remain on We The People, the Militia and not the corporate angle. We should keep Wall Street out of this as much as possible, remember, who runs NSSF… https://2awhiterook.com/glock-catalog-update-nssf-leadership-interesting-people/ I don’t think we need massive publicly traded and countless multinational firms on a FACA.

Further I’d say a number cruncher, like John Lott would be a good addition. Trump seems to get numbers, and I suspect someone like Lott could put together a presentation in such a way Trump could come around to our side of an issue. In other words, Lott might be able to speak Trump’s language.

And I think to top it off, pick two gun tubers, and two 2A writers. That’s put the committee membership at ten, with Bondi as head making it eleven.

Some people may bring up concerns about FACA record keeping requirements, but I don’t see that as an issue. I’m a firm believer in transparency, and I think the 2A movement would be much more eager to make their voices heard, either through the various members of the committee, or through public input, just create a website, with a form to submit comments, and digitize all the records so WE THE PEOPLE can see easily what’s going on.

As we all know, the 2A movement has been lied to and cheated, both by government and non governmental entities, especially over the past two decades. I think FACA is the way to go, given it’s transparency requirements. Plus those transparency requirements would give a much needed moral boost to our largely apathetic movement.

Either way, whether it’s FACA or a ‘Office for Second Amendment Protection’ all the problems listed above, could be taken care of, or, at the very least, Trump would be forced to hear, what the 2A movement’s thinking, and have the opportunity to review policy recommendations and constructive criticism.

Remember, “self government” involves work. And since this is a 2A blog, I’ll say this in terms we all can understand, we must keep our sights on targets that don’t exceed our maximum point blank range.

Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
