Maximum Overdrive

No, this isn’t about the film, ‘Maximum Overdrive’ (1986), this is real.

My Dad’s an over the road trucker. Yesterday, 9-23-25, he had to pull into a southbound scale on Interstate 65, thirty or forty miles south of Gary, Indiana. Normal right? No. The state patrol had a 18wheeler pulled over just ahead of and in view of the scale, which he had to pass to go in and weigh. Odd.

Then things got stranger. All over the scale, were highway patrol, six squads, parked, and ready to roll. Behind the office, there two or three 18 wheelers parked, with two more highway patrol squads parked there, and talking to the drivers.

Dad only had to wait a couple minutes to weigh. Only two tractors ahead of him. But four men, in plain cloths and wearing tactical vests, spoke to both drivers ahead of him. When his turn came, one climbed up on his tractor, on his tactical vest it bore DEA. The DEA agent asked Dad how he was doing, then said, “Can I ask you a question? What country were you born in?”

Dad replied, “Minnesota. It’s kinda it’s own country.”

The DEA agent chuckled and waved him on. Just as he was merging onto the interstate, again in view of the scale, the highway patrol had two 18 wheeler’s pulled over.

Dad said just a short while later, in a ten mile section he passed six troopers watching for speeders.

In trucking time is money. Trucker’s don’t get paid to wait. But without getting into all of that, what’s this pose for the Second Amendment? That may sound like a odd question, but think about it, why is the federal DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY asking truckers what country they were born in? What probable cause did they have? Dad wasn’t over loaded. And even if he were, or had some mechanical or log violation, why the federal DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY?

It’s now required that truckers be able to speak and read English. https://truckdrivernews.com/english-proficiency-rule-now-in-effect-for-all-u-s-truckers/ Notice, “Connor’s Law” is not a law yet, https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/3608/actions

Why is the DEA enforcing a federal trucking rule/executive order?

Since so much of American government legislation and policy, and court rulings, and so forth is based off “precedent”, what will this do in the future? Is there a risk, of after Trump’s gone, of a openly hostile regime residing in the White House and using this “precedent” of a national police force to do an equivalent of “show me your papers” for firearms? Could federal agents knock on your door because you have a concealed carry permit? Or your bank statements show you just made a purchase at a gun store? Or there was a NICS check done on you?

Could a future regime, using an executive order, create a rule for the ATF to go door to door, using their national gun registry? Could you be accosted by federal agents as you enter a gun store or shooting range? What havoc could ATF or other agencies create amongst FFL’s, or mail order gun parts sellers like Brownells, or the gun/ammo manufacturers themselves? We recently saw how ugly an ATF “zero tolerance policy” can be for FFL’s, imagine that on steroids.

I agree, all drivers, truckers or not, should be able to speak and read English. However if the Trump admin enforces this rule/executive order in such a way, someone like Tampon Tim or Newsom could do something similar with the Second Amendment and use the excuse of “Trump set precedent”, for there to be federal agents, without any probable cause, to infringe upon your rights, 2A or otherwise.

If Trump and the GOP as a whole, continue to over react, that sets us up for terrible mid term losses and perhaps worse, a terrible ’28 election.

“Conservatives” whatever that means in 2025 America, must be careful to NOT become the big government authoritarian types they rail against the left for, to further their goals. We have a Constitution. Everyone in power must abide by it.

Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
