This is from David Codrea’s old blog. It makes for very interesting reading, and I suggest you scroll through the whole page, as it contains lots of details and food for thought, https://waronguns.blogspot.com/search?q=profiles+in+apathy
And on a related note, regarding “apathy”, I’m already seeing on Ammoland, in response to Codrea’s piece there, https://www.ammoland.com/2025/09/without-coordination-money-and-boots-on-the-ground-virginia-will-be-lost-to-the-gun-prohibitionists/ the comments section’s really getting animated by some who think “winning court cases are more effective” than voting pro 2A.
To those who think, “winning court cases are more effective”, somehow, than voting pro 2A and winning I attempted to remind one reader that judges, depending on the level, are either voted in directly by the people, or appointed and confirmed by the people’s representatives. So therefore, pro 2A candidates winning at the ballot box is a must.
That went over like a stack of bricks. He cited many famous pro 2A court wins to somehow justify his argument. And I reminded him again, none of the 2A wins in court would’ve happened if it hadn’t been for people voting pro 2A, and therefore getting originalist judges.
Again, that went over like a stack of bricks.
This “apathy” as Codrea describes it among gun owners is plainly obvious, even in some who spend a seemingly endless amount of time reading Ammoland and other 2A news sites. They seem to think, “just let the courts, and the lawyers do it”.
Well the 2A movement won’t get good originalist judges without voting, and it won’t get good 2A lawyers without working with and funding pro 2A groups. In the article mentioned above, if Virginia 2A “supporters” don’t get off their duffs and actually support, and organize and truly “get out the vote”, and get Winsome Earle-Sears in the governors mansion, the Second Amendment in Virginia is likely over for a very long time, if not forever.
Having opinions and bellyaching online is one’s right to do, however it’s not effective if one wants to win. Winning takes effort. We all have strengths and weaknesses. I’ve said it before, my “strength” if you will is typing. So what do I do? I run this nothing blog. Also I have a Twit Twat AKA X account where I message politicians, from my local ones, all the way on up to the man in the White House on 2A issues. Does it amount to anything? No. But, if a few thousand do the same thing, it might. If a few hundred thousand did, it’d definitely get people’s attention. Now what would a few million people sending messages on Twit Twat or other un-social media to their politicians advocating for the Second Amendment accomplish? LOTS!
Don’t get down with apathy. Get to work, or we ALL lose.
Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
