Ok, time to admit my personal bias, I like Glocks. If you’re one of the three people who read this blog, (me, myself and I), you’ll know I think my new Glock G34 Gen 5 MOS is the finest handgun ever made. And the G17 Gen 5 I’ve had for awhile now, not far behind that. So yes, I like Glocks. The G34 Gen 5 MOS is the funnest firearm of any kind in my modest armory at the moment.
Now that my bias has been made clear, there’s a problem. I browse gun manufacturers websites off and on, and have noticed something curious about Glock. After having read their discontinued list, two months ago?, and seeing the G34 Gen 5 MOS was on it, I raced out and bought one. https://us.glock.com/en/discontinued-models
Since then I’ve been glancing at their site fairly often and things have been changing fast, models coming and going, and things of that nature. The other day I noticed, that, there are ZERO long barreled Glocks listed on their “Commercial” (Militia) catalog, https://us.glock.com/en/products/commercial-firearms All are 9mm, 10mm, .45ACP, .380ACP, and .22LR. But no long barrels. I don’t blame them for discontinuing the .40S&W, no one’s buying new guns chambered for it. Even the guys at the gun store tell me no one buys .40S&W pistols anymore.
Now, their “Law Enforcement” (the only ones) page, https://us.glock.com/en/products/law-enforcement 9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP, 10mm, .45GAP, .380ACP, .357 (Sig) and .22LR. Look, a G34 Gen 5 MOS (the one I recently bought which was “discontinued”), it has a 5.31″ barrel, how many cops/departments are buying those? Even the G17L Gen 5 MOS with a 6.02″ barrel- I can’t believe any cop carries a 6.02″ barrelled 9mm. And most of the other calibers listed on this page have similar length barrelled models as well.
Now, the question is why? Plenty of gun companies have a page for “the only ones”, but those are typically companies like FN and Daniel Defense and others which offer select fire AR15 variants and in FN’s case, belt fed machine guns as well. But why Glock? They only make pistols. Pistols aren’t NFA or Hughes Act regulated (infringed). I’ve seen gun companies that don’t make NFA and Hughes infringed weapons, with “the only ones” pages, but that’s been for LE pricing, which, having grown up in retail I know, is typical of any industry, the more units you buy, the cheaper the per unit price is.
But an entire page of pistols, which contains many models which were supposedly discontinued, many of which have barrels far longer than what any cop would want, barrels only target shooters would want, are somehow reserved for “the only ones”? Those long barreled models even say below their photos “Law Enforcement Only” and or “Competition”. And the calibers too, why do “the only ones”, get .40S&W, .45GAP, or .357 (Sig) while we the Militia are denied access to Glocks with those chamberings?
Is there some financial reason behind this? I can’t think of one. You’ll notice I accessed Glock’s US site, not one for some other country, so, there shouldn’t be anything lost in translation so to speak.
Or does this have something to do with the recent war on Glocks, because of those dastardly Chinese made Glock “switches”, and Glock trying to be politically correct and not risk losing their police contracts? https://waronguns.com/glockteasers/ I can’t think of a reason for that either, I can’t imagine many gang bangers want guns like a G34 or G17L for full auto drive by’s. They’re competition guns, even Glock’s LE page says that! They’re not pistols easily hidden, the G34 Gen 5 MOS I have is identical in both length and height to a .45ACP 1911 5″ barreled government model.
None of this makes sense.
In case Glock’s website changes, the above links were accessed and linked to on 7-10-25.
As a side note, last night I tried to order G17/G34 Gen 5 (17) round magazines. The typical places like Brownells, Midway, Cabelas, PSA, all out of them. Midway said they’d be back ordered with an ETA of 9-7-25. Brownells had OD colored G17/G34 Gen 5 (17) round magazines, but none in the regular black. I ordered a bunch of those… Reluctantly, olive drab magazines in a black pistol? Sacrilegious! But my current batch of G17/G34 Gen 5 magazines are either past their prime or getting there, and I can’t wait till September, or I’ll have serious Glock withdrawals. Oh, and do not buy after market Glock magazines. I tried three Magpuls years ago for the G17 Gen 5, I was able to load, fire, reload each one three times before they crapped out. Upon close inspection they’d bulged, no metal liner like Glock OEM magazines. Only use Glock OEM magazines in your Glock.
Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
