Amazon/James Bond/Deleting Guns

We’ve got some problems here, and I’m speaking of film details. If we’re going to talk about the deletion of firearms in film promos, let’s get it right. In ‘Dr. No’ (1962), Sean Connery, playing James Bond, never used a Walther PPK. He used a Walther PP, chambered in .380ACP which doubled for a PPK said to be chambered in .32ACP. And a FN Browning M1910 in .380ACP, with a fake suppressor. https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Dr._No

Taking a quick glance here, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055928/mediaindex/?ref_=mv_close&contentTypes=poster it doesn’t appear that any of the period film posters show Sean Connery with a PPK. Some look like a PP, some, more like a Ruger Mark 1. There’s a few images here, which I believe are newer, for VHS or DVD releases which appear to show Sean Connery holding a PPK though.

The original, and only true James Bond, Sean Connery, did not use a Walther PPK chambered in .32ACP or any other chambering, until the second film, ‘From Russia With Love’ (1963), https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/From_Russia_with_Love

As for the other films mentioned in the article, Pierce Brosnan in ‘GoldenEye’ (1995), Roger Moore in ‘Live And Let Die’ (1973) and Daniel Craig in ‘Spectre’ (2015), all used PPK’s, but as always with Bond, their’s were chambered in .32ACP, not “.380” as the writer would have us believe. https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/GoldenEye_(1995) https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Live_and_Let_Die https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Spectre

It should also be noted, that in the most recent Bond, ‘No Time To Die’ (2021), Daniel Craig uses a PPK chambered in .32ACP, https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/No_Time_to_Die That’s a pretty good run for a pistol design which, at the time went back 90 years.

If the pro 2A movement is to criticize anti 2A behavior, in this case film marketing, we must get our facts straight, for we always point out the flaws with the anti’s details, like “assault weapons” or “high capacity magazines” or “fully semi automatic…”. If we don’t get the facts straight, then we’ll be the ones to look the fools as well as be hypocrites and we’ll fail to make any progress for our cause.

Yes, movies are a hobby of mine, second only to shooting.

Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
