GOA Bulletin 7-20-25

This is from a GOA emailed bulletin 7-20-25,

A House subcommittee voted 9-6 this past week to advance legislation that was loaded with several GOA-backed provisions that are sure to energize and encourage gun owners across the country.

GOA’s federal lobbying team has been working closely with members of the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Subcommittee to secure several pro-gun victories in the base text of a critical funding bill aimed at restoring Second Amendment rights!

Some of the highlights include:

  • Language that would prevent the ATF-DEA merger, stopping the creation of a superagency that would empower a future anti-gun administration to go after gun owners in the same way they go after violent drug cartels.
  • A 25% budget cut for the ATF, which further reduces the agency’s funding after last year’s historic cut. Anti-gun Democrats have said this would lead to the ATF having to fire 1000 employees. This is a step in the right direction towards the future abolishment of the entire agency!
  • A provision that would defund the Biden Era ATF regulations, such as the pistol-brace ban and the frame & receiver rule.
  • A GOA priority provision that would defund states that refuse to accept concealed carry reciprocity.
  • And perhaps most importantly, GOA-backed language to delete the ATF’s illegal gun registry!

These are just a few of the many wins that Gun Owners of America has fought for in the funding bills coming up. Stay tuned for more details.

Restoring Gun Rights, One Lawsuit at a Time

Many gun owners know that GOA filed its One Big Beautiful Lawsuit on July 4, challenging the NFA’s registration and restrictions on suppressors and short-barreled firearms. But did you hear about GOA’s most recent lawsuit from this past week?

Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) just filed a challenge against the United States Postal Service, seeking to overturn the Prohibition-era federal ban on the mailing of handguns.

Should we win this case, GOA members would be able to mail their handguns ahead of a trip to their final destination, and thus, be able to fly without checking baggage.

Moreover, GOA members would be able to sell and mail handguns in-state to other individuals—pursuant to state law—and wouldn’t have to do face-to-face transactions.  This would be a huge deal in big states like Texas, where El Paso to Beaumont is a 12-hour drive, and private buyers are not required to undergo Universal Background Checks.

GOA currently has over 30 active lawsuits in more than a dozen states. Most recently, we have filed challenges to gun control laws in Missouri and Florida, among other places.

So a House Committee voted to advance some good stuff. But, let’s ask ourselves, while Trump, Vance, Thune, Johnson, and the rest of the GOP didn’t care about HPA and SHORT, will any of the above legislation, have a date with Trump’s pen? I’m doubtful.

And I’m leery about bringing any major 2A cases before the Supreme Court, given the current makeup, and how worthless Roberts and Trump’s three appointees have been on 2A. Alito and Thomas are solid, but that’s only two out of nine- if you include the Dem appointees, and obviously we know how they’d vote. And of course that if the Supreme Court takes up any 2A case, which lately has proved to be a big if. Do we want to risk the Supreme Court ruling the wrong way? I don’t.

So what’s the point in all this? Lots of money being spent on lobbying for legislation, which, while good, I highly doubt will go anywhere. Then lots more money being spent on risky court cases.

Bad strategy. Waste of money. I have to ask, is GOA just gunning for donations here?

Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
