Who Are We?

I was watching ‘Starship Troopers’ (1997) last night,

and it made me think, about, who are we? Are most of us brainwashed to one degree or another? Are any more than a few of us independent thinkers? The movie’s obviously a military satire of Nazis, in a sci fi setting fighting bugs out in space… Satire, remember. But it asks very uncomfortable questions, about brainwashing, blindly following, and things of that nature.

Do we know who we are? By “we”, I mean 2A supporters or those who claim to be such. It seems there’s a few factions, and these are the main ones, and this isn’t in any particular order,

First, the fudds, you know the “I need by deer rifle and bird gun” type, maybe a pistol too, that they’re more than happy to get a “mother may I” slip from their state to carry concealed.

Second, the type that wants to “larp” or whatever they call it in their basements, to be “tacticool”, yet never gets off their asses and trains, just buys gear, and watches guntube, and thinks they know everything, without having gotten any of their guns or gear dirty before. They think that as long as they have a suppressed AR15 and a Glock, and some body armor they’re ready.

Third, and this group is most evident on forums and comments sections on sites like Ammoland and the like. They’re from either the first, or second group, and mostly old. Now an old man can be formidable, don’t get me wrong, but these guys take armchair quarterbacking to an all new level. They live off their glory days, which were decades ago. On the off chance you ever get one to admit when the last time he was out shooting was, he’ll reply, “last fall”, “last year”, something like that. Others will sometimes admit they only shot up a couple boxes of ammo. Yet they’re all gung ho to take on the oncoming Russian or Chinese invasion, the Antifa/BLM rioters, muggers and the feds who’ll come to disarm them, and they’ll win, because they’re “prepared”… Right.

Fourth, and this really involves all of the above groups to some extent or another, is the followers. They have blind faith in something, and I’m not referring to God. They have blind faith in, the NRA or some other alleged 2A group. Or they believe “Trump’s the most pro gun president ever!”- Ammoland just had a piece proclaiming that… BS. Or they are devout Second Amendment supporters, but somehow think the Second Amendment only applies to firearms, as opposed to all the terrible, deadly, implements of the soldier. These people are so close to the trees they can’t see the forest.

None of the above, understand the true meaning of the Second Amendment, nor that they are the ultimate check on tyranny. Few men do. Few have the dedication to not just equip, but train. To get their guns, and gear dirty. To exercise, some think they can just wear body armor… Yeah, not without a hell of a lot of exercising and training, can you shoot wearing body armor? Shoot standing? Prone? Can you crawl, wearing it? I’m not built like Rambo, and few are. But train you must, or you’ll be worthless in a touchy situation, regardless of all your gear if you don’t train. Shooting is a perishable skill.

Finally, how many of the above groups I mentioned are truly willing? Don’t give me all this times none sense from doing drills, or how you can ring steel at a thousand yards. Duke said, in ‘The Shootist’ (1976), “It isn’t always being fast or even accurate that counts, it’s being willing.”
