NRA vs Glass, NRA’s petitioned the Supreme Court, to hear its challenge to Florida’s ban on 18, 19, and 20 year old buying rifles and shotguns.
GOA and SAF are writing amicus briefs and supporting NRA’s petition to the Supreme Court. Bad idea. The supposed conservative majority Supreme Court hasn’t been very Second Amendment friendly lately, and that’s if they even bother to hear a case. The NRA, GOA and SAF should be able to see the danger here, if Roberts, Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavenaugh vote the wrong way.
The correct idea to fighting should be legislatively. Look at Florida, who’s governor? Ron Desantis, a Republican who clearly wants to run again for the White House. Look who has decisive control of the Florida legislature, Republicans. Force them to act. Force them to repeal this law. Use Desantis’s dream of being president to force his hand to repeal the law! Let’s force to GOP, at least in Florida, to show whether they truly stand by their party’s platform as being “pro Second Amendment”.
If lobbying fails, 2A groups can always try again. But if the Supreme Court hears this case, and rules the wrong way, then what? Then all states have “precedent” to ban rifle and shotgun sales to 18-20 year olds.
Taking this to the Supreme Court now is beyond stupid, it’s dangerous. Which begs the question, why is NRA, and SAF and GOA in such a hurry to NOT lobby Desantis and the Republican controlled legislature and instead push for a court battle?
