North Sues NRA/WLP/King And King Sues North

Former NRA president and director Oliver North sues NRA again and former NRA director and current NRA Foundation Chairman Tom King and ex NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre. Here’s his lawsuit,

https://2awhiterook.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/EF2025_279857_Thomas_H_King_v_Oliver_North_EXHIBIT_S__12.pdf

I’ve read the complaint. It’s boring. North wants $20million, and “treble damages” (so if he wins, the $20million is tripled, so $60million) for conspiracy to injure his property and business and for filing a malicious and illegal lawsuit.

Oliver North is an interesting man, and I’m not talking about his military career, only his time at NRA. Typically, NRA “reformers” laud North as a hero, for what he did to expose corruption. And true, he did begin the process of exposing the NRA corruption, since that’s commonly known, and detailed in the complaint, namely Brewer’s law firm billing NRA $20million from April 2018 to March 2019. Meanwhile, the “cabal” naturally hates his guts.

But there’s a few big buts here, that “reformers” fail to mention. North began his media career, per the complaint in 1992, and it went on from there. He was first elected to the NRA BoD in 1998 and remained on the board all through out, evening being the highest vote getter in the 2019 elections. He becomes NRA president, in 2018, while still retaining his director seat, as is normal.

It’s important to note here, that until his last few years as CEO, (he resigned in 2024) LaPierre was rehired unanimously by the board, which means North, voted to rehire him, twenty or so times. Now I’m not defending LaPierre, he’s a crook, all the way. But, the “reformers” fault the “cabal” for voting to rehire LaPierre, so I’m simply pointing out, North voted to rehire him too. I’m calling balls and strikes.

And, being a director and president are unpaid positions… Kinda sorta maybe. The bylaws, at least my copy, amended January 7, 2023, provide a lot of wiggle room, Article V, Sec 5, page 22. In short, if the board votes to pay them, they can be paid.

LaPierre recruited North to run for the board, in 1998. 20 years later, LaPierre recruits North to become president. North wants money, apparently for his wife. He and LaPierre make a deal, with Ackerman McQueen…

Now, that doesn’t sound on the up and up to me. Why is a man in two supposedly unpaid positions being paid over $2million per year? Further, if North is to be paid, why is he being paid indirectly by NRA through Ackerman McQueen? One needn’t be a legal eagle to smell something’s rotten here. Once again, I’m calling balls and strikes.

Later North voluntarily takes a cut in pay, of $1.6million over the 3 year contract. That’s still a lot of money for his wife. What happened to all the money from Fox, book deals, speaking engagements, etc? The NRA is a non profit corporation after all. I don’t know but things stink.

It’s not clear from the complaint the dates in which he left or was forced out of the presidency and board of directors, but he does retain a life time seat on the NRA Executive Council.

But so the story goes, North got wind Brewer was being paid by NRA $20million between April of 2018 and March of 2019, and LaPierre wouldn’t let North see the bills, and also the BoD didn’t approve of the retainer (BIG UH OH) and as North pressed, LaPierre pushed back, and eventually LaPierre had then director, and current NRA Foundation Chairman Tom King and long time NYSRPA president bring forth a complaint with the NRA Ethics Committee against North. So the story goes.

And the war goes on.

Again, it’s worth pointing out, while the “reformers” wail over Marion Hammer, ex NRA director and ex NRA president making tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands per year for many years, while in ostensibly an unpaid position, why not the same criticism of North? I’m not defending Hammer, in my view she’s as much a crook as LaPierre. I’m only asking a question. Why does North get a pass? And to be paid through an intermediary at that. At least Hammer was paid directly by NRA. Both deals seem crooked to me.

Further, why don’t the “reformers” bring up that North voted to rehire LaPierre 20 odd times? Where was North, and to be fair, the entire board, in the 20 years he was a director before becoming president? Why didn’t he raise concerns regarding NRA corruption in the preceding 20 years? Did North only grow interested in NRA’s finances once he assumed the presidency? The “reformers” don’t give anyone else a pass on that, but North gets one? I’m just calling balls and strikes.

Also in the complaint, it says North filmed, eight episodes of a series for NRATV from May 2018 to April 2019, with Ackerman McQueen. I never watched any of them, and didn’t know they existed till I read through the complaint, though I didn’t go look for them either.

Then there’s some things which aren’t in the complaint. In 2007, NRA’s then chief lobbyist, and head of ILA Chris Cox said in an interview, the NRA had never advocated for fully automatic machine guns. https://waronguns.blogspot.com/search?q=Chris+Cox

Why hadn’t the NRA advocated for machine guns? The Second Amendment says “arms” not merely “guns”. “Arms” means all the deadly implements of the soldier… NRA should read up on Tench Coxe.

Then 2017, NRA both LaPierre and Cox called for “additional regulations” (essentially banning) bump stocks, https://sgbonline.com/nra-urges-new-rules-for-gun-bump-stocks/

And then during 2018, NRA released a video with Cox calling for red flag laws (take the guns first, due process later)… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8ijtVkTCCQ&t=74s

If North is such a hero, why didn’t he fight these blatant anti Second Amendment attacks by his very own organization? Why keep rehiring the then CEO LaPierre? And again, why not speak up about financial corruption before becoming president?

And Tom King, hired Brewer to sue Oliver North! King is in my view a crook on par with LaPierre. He’s more or less counter suing North a “he said/he said” thing. Interesting though, North filed 4-30-25, and King filed 5-19-25. North is suing in Virginia, which seems odd, considering NRA is, while physically head quartered in Virginia, it’s legally chartered in New York, so it must follow NY non profit laws. And King filed his lawsuit in New York, which seems appropriate, given NY is where NRA is legally chartered. Here’s King’s complaint,

https://2awhiterook.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/EF2025_279857_Thomas_H_King_v_Oliver_North_COMPLAINT_2-2.pdf

King is likewise… Interesting. Remember he’s chairman of NRA Foundation, which is chartered in Washington D.C. Well there was a settlement with the DC AG’s office, https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2024/04/17/nra-and-foundation-settle-dc-lawsuit/

Also, King’s president of the NY State Rifle And Pistol Association. Per their 2022 IRS annual filing, King as president worked 40hours per week and made $90,000 that year. And 13 other people work one hour per work for free… And NYSRPA only had to pay $125 in taxes.

Think the above is fake? See for yourself, their 2022 IRS filings,

In related news, Marion Hammer’s suing the NRA, https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2025/05/09/marion-hammer-sues-nra/

And this may or may not be still ongoing, it’s been awhile since there’s been an update, but another lawsuit against NRA https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2024/09/10/major-new-lawsuit-filed/

Then of course the potentially at a minimum, $60million, with treble damages, so $180million RICO lawsuit, https://www.loevy.com/press-release-court-denies-nra-motion-to-dismiss-lawsuit/

Then meanwhile NRA’s suing both Ackerman McQueen and Under Wild Skies! https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2025/04/03/brewer-firms-legacy-still-drains-nra-finances/ and, https://onlygunsandmoney.com/?p=35231

Now a few questions,

  1. Why’s Tom King still chairman of the NRA Foundation?
  2. What percentage of NRA funds are going to non 2A litigation?
  3. Does the 76 member board of directors know about all this?
  4. How much cash does NRA currently have on hand?
  5. Can they afford to pay the attorneys fees and potential damages if they lose?
  6. Has NRA informed membership about the above litigation? (I’m a life member, and I got all this by reading non NRA sources and doing my own digging)
  7. How many pro 2A cases does NRA currently have, and how much are they costing NRA?
  8. Does NRA have any lobbying plans for the 2026 mid terms?
  9. Does anyone listed above, want the NRA to be a Second Amendment organization or is this all about the Benjamins?
  10. Is anyone truly running the NRA? The board of directors? The CEO? President? 1st and 2nd V.P.’s?
  11. Can NRA survive?
