Store Mags Loaded Or Unloaded?

The idea that keeping a magazine loaded will “wear out” the spring is a common misconception. The real wear and tear on magazine springs comes from cycling — loading and unloading rounds repeatedly. Springs in quality magazines are designed to stay under compression for extended periods without losing their strength.

Personally I keep some magazines loaded, and rotate them from time to time. I don’t like Magpul. They always bulge, not so much the lips, but the upper half of the body, so much so that they won’t drop free from any of my AR15’s. The lips have become a problem on some though. That’s why I like Lancer’s, with their metal feed lips. I still have some that are seven or eight years old and work fine.

Magpul Glock magazines can be loaded, inserted and fired exactly three times. Then they bulge so badly the follower has zero tension. Three times. With three different Magpul Glock mags.

Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
