Although the Constitution authorizes a postal service,U.S. Const. art. I, § 8, cl. 7, nothing in the Constitution affirmatively requires the government to maintain a postal service or to carry parcels. But Congress, having chosen to maintain a postal service that carries parcels (including handguns for some customers), cannot then discriminate against the carriage of constitutionally protected arms on behalf of private citizens.
There’s plenty of problems here. First what’s “arms” mean? It means all the terrible implements of the soldier. And what do soldiers sometimes do? Assassinate enemy leaders and commanders. So all arms are protected, including those not in existence yet,
the Second Amendment; namely, by prohibiting the mailing of concealable firearms that aren’t protected by the Second Amendment like “undetectable firearms or concealable gadget-type guns designed primarily for assassination.”
And to further, and I’d say deliberately mess things up, Trump’s DOJ, thinks it’s ok for USPS to ban ammo from the mail. They say it’s dangerous. But how dangerous is it? The privately owned firm UPS ships ammo. So if it’s not too dangerous for them, why’s it too dangerous for USPS? Someone will undoubtedly be thinking about planes and it’s not a bright idea to have hundreds of pounds of gunpowder on a plane. Ok, so what? UPS manages to ship ammo without loading it on a plane…
Although Uncle Sam loads tons of ammo onto massive cargo planes every day and sends them around the world and how many of those crash and burn? Not many, if ever. So a case could be made that USPS, as part of the government must have an option to ammo by air. If it’s good enough for the soldier, it ought to be an option for the Militia.
I believe this is Trump’s attempt to throw the 2A movement a bone. He’s still defending the National Firearms Act. He argued against 4th amendment protections in Case vs Montana. And has Trump done any of things he’s legally allowed to do, as far as bypassing Congress to advance 2A? No.
Trump is anti Second Amendment. No one with dual loyalties will be pro 2A. His party needs the 2A vote and 2A money in the midterms. Yes, the same party that watered down HPA and SHORT to a meaningless nothing.
