Is Sean Penn’s new film one of the ‘Casualties Of War‘ (1989)? That war film’s a real clunker. You can only milk out a kidnapping/ rape and murder so long before it becomes over the top soap. And Michael J. Fox’s whining… Trying to distance himself from his teen roles, he fails at being manly.
So Sean Penn partners with Eric Swalwell, to make a movie. David Codrea covers the politics of it. But what about the actual movie? It’s called ‘The Gun On Second Street’. There’s a little more of the plot, here. The only names that stood out in the cast are Tom Arnold and Rumer Willis. The later being one of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughters. This trailer isn’t exactly captivating.
Has ‘The Gun On Second Street’ really been in production since October 2023? Did it begin filming in April of 2025? Not good signs. This is an interview with the director/writer, here.
If he’s really filming it on film, not digital then that’s a plus. But it’s only a plus if he knows how to focus the camera. The reason modern films look so terrible is because they no longer focus the camera to see both the background and foreground. New films only have focus on the foreground. So you don’t see the scenery, even in big films. And the modern digital cameras don’t help matters.
Which actor won an Oscar? Tom Arnold hasn’t.
Local casting is always a plus.
And if you watched the whole interview you may be wondering what a Poppy is. I’ll admit I didn’t know either. This trailer doesn’t showcase anything stellar. Quite the reverse. Oh has Rico really gone down hill since his Mobile Infantry days. (If you are scratching your head over that one, shame on you.)
Did you catch at about the 9min mark the director says one of the “technical partners” is Caterpillar Inc? Cat’s not mentioned here, or here. And what’s ‘Ransom‘? Yikes. Their website makes my clunky blog look good. The director says Cat makes earth movers, moves earth? This director’s captain obvious here. Why did Cat provide heavy equipment and wardrobe for this film? Did Sean Penn or Eric Swalwell call in a favor?
Now the plot, like we’ve never seen this before… Two friends/partners. One accidentally kills the other. Guilt. He flees. Comes back later and hops in the sack with the widow and becomes “daddy” to the now fatherless child. That alone makes me roll my eyes. Now throw in some good ol’ anti 2A propaganda and… DUMPSTER FIRE!!!
Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
