I got an email this morning from NAGR, saying,
BREAKING: NAGR Chairman Appointed to Senior White House Role
Our Board Chairman, Chief Legal Counsel, one of our Day One Founders and a dear friend of mine, David Warrington has been appointed to serve as White House Counsel and Assistant to President Donald J. Trump.
The fact that a founding member of the National Association for Gun Rights will have the ear of the President of the United States should allow you to sleep good at night knowing that our rights are being protected by a proud Marine and a true WARRIOR for the Second Amendment.
There’s a few things here which need to be considered. First, this is odd, given NAGR’s recent video calling for AG Bondi to be fired. It’s surprising Trump would hire him after something like that.
The other thing is, Warrington will be working for Trump. A cursory online search, the numbers vary, but it looks like he’d be paid $150,000 or $180,000 or perhaps more. The exact number isn’t important, but since he’ll be paid, that would give him an incentive to not upset Trump and tow the Trump admin’s line. That’s not exactly what some of us were hoping for, as like the Second Amendment Task Force, it’s staffed with government lawyers, with no outside 2A group reps or 2A writers/scholars/lawyers/number crunchers, so I don’t see how Warrington’s position will help, when the 2A Task Force has stalled out.
Then this is where things get really strange, a basic search on wakipedia reveals, Warrington’s been White House Council since January 20th, 2025.
So why this, “breaking” email from NAGR, ten months after this appointment happened? And more importantly, how’s Warrington delivered for the 2A movement?
