What is Colt CZ Group? That thought occurred to me recently, with the revelation that Colt Canada was melting down confiscated Canadian citizen owned firearms for the Canadian government. Oh what a rabbit hole I dove into…
As I’ve quickly discovered, Colt CZ Group is MASSIVE. Obviously it’s CZ and Colt and CZ-USA and the dreaded toy maker for the only ones, Colt Canada. But there’s more like Dan Wesson and Sellior & Bellot. And then the rabbit hole really begins…
There’s something called Saltech or is it SwissAA? They can’t seem to make up their minds. SwissAA is a partner of the Swiss, Belgian, German and other European armed forces. The company holds several patents for ammunition. It consists of several 100% owned subsidiaries located in Switzerland and Hungary. It’s an odd catalog, mostly 7.62mm and 12.7mm ammo… For “the only ones”. They also have 40mm grenades and hand grenades, though the 40mm are all “less lethal” so it appears, and the hand grenades are mostly or perhaps all “less lethal”, not all of their catalog is translated well.
And they’re a Swiss firm with two factories in Switzerland, which has been around since 2003, and they own other firms as well, which I can’t identify. The site doesn’t translate well.
Colt CZ also owns Spuhr, which is a Swedish firm, which mostly manufactures firearms optics mounts. But, they also make goodies for the only ones, such as grenade launcher sight mounts, and even going so far as to offer HK upgrades for the MP5, G3, G36, and 417/MR308A1.
Next is a Czech firm called 4M Tactical, which manufacturers gear, like helmets, uniforms, body armor, packs, holsters and so forth, all for the only ones.
And then this is odd, Zbrojovka Brno, Colt CZ lists the firm, which it bought in 2004, that it says mainly produces hunting rifles, but doesn’t list a website for them. Doing a search for an actual website, the only relevent thing I could find was a wikipedia entry.
Next up is Colt CZ Defence Solutions which doesn’t have a website either, but the bit from the Colt CZ page says, The company specializes in international trade in military materiel and ammunition for military & law enforcement. Lots of money in supplying the only ones.
And now we come to a training facility in France, which either is being built or has been built, it’s not clear, EG-CZ Academy, EG-CZ Academy is a modern, indoor shooting range complex being built in Quimper, France. The project started in cooperation with Eric Grauffel, nine-times world champion and IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) legend to promote the shooting sport and raise awareness about the gun safety. The Academy hosts various events, competitions and courses all around the globe, bringing together world’s top shooters and high-end products of Česká zbrojovka.
They do have a website, but it’s extremely hard to read, once again, translation issues. Their list of “partners” is interesting and worth a look. One that stood out was Armscor. Why Armscor when two divisions of Colt CZ already makes 1911’s, Colt and Dan Wesson? Armscor also makes ammo, but so does Colt CZ under their Sellior & Bellot and Saltech, so why bring in a competitor?
This is interesting, Colt CZ HUNGARY, no dedicated website, but, Colt CZ HUNGARY is a joint stock company of Colt CZ Group (51%) and the Hungarian state-owned company N7 Holding Ltd (49%). The shared objective is to rearm the Hungarian armed forces with modern small arms and at the same time to create reliable production capacities in Hungary for the needs of both shareholders. The joint venture focuses on the production of 9 mm caliber weapons, such as the CZ P-07 and P-10 pistols, the CZ SCORPION 3 EVO carbines, as well as the production of military rifles, such as the CZ BREN 2, and the production of components for Colt CZ Group’s manufacturing plants in the Czech Republic, Canada and the USA. The production plant, located in Kiskunfélegyháza, has a modern automated operation including forging, deep drilling, honing, heat treatment of metals, testing and measurement in test tunnels.
Whoopee! They’re “rearming” a NATO country, while we’re in a proxy war with Russia, and they’re going to put Americans out of work by making parts over there and shipping them over here! And what is “deep drilling” and “test tunnels”? Is that like Elon Musk’s The Boring Company? What could go wrong?!
Next is Cardam, and RnD firm, CARDAM is a joint venture of the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the industrial companies Beneš a Lát and Colt CZ.
They do have a dedicated website, which looks next Scamdemic level spooky.
Now we go to Vibrom, Vibrom is based in Třebechovice pod Orebem in the Czech Republic and specializes in powder injection molding (PIM), MIM (metal) and CIM (ceramic powder) technologies. Thanks to the strategic connection of Colt CZ with Vibrom, it is possible to ensure close cooperation between production and research and development units, as the number of MIM parts in firearms is growing.
They do have a dedicated website as well, but it’s hard to read, once again it doesn’t translate well, but appears to just be manufacturing technology.
That’s as far down this Czech trans-national rabbit hole I’m going down. The general idea here, is to find out if there’s any actual pro 2A gun/ammo/shooting equipment companies out there. So periodically, I will do a deep dive on ownership, as I’d like to direct my own future purchases from companies who don’t melt down civilian owned firearms and don’t go to gun dealers and demand to see 4473’s…
Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
