Recently, I’ve noticed a trend, in comments sections of various 2A sites, a strange one… Knee jerk reactions… Emotion.
As you can see here, https://www.foxnews.com/politics/americas-largest-gun-lobby-speaks-out-trump-admin-mulls-possible-trans-firearms-ban and no doubt already know the Trump administration’s been talking about stripping those who think they’re something other than the gender they actually are, of their Second Amendment rights.
While politicians, talking about ways to institute citizen disarmament policies is normal, what’s interesting is how 2A supporters on 2A websites in the comments sections react. They think these gender dysphoria sufferers should be banned from owning arms, that Trump should just do it, and do it now. Now, I have no study or poll to point to, it’s all just from observations.
I’ve engaged with a number of these people. I’ve reminded them of due process, “shall not be infringed”, etc. That doesn’t go over well.
The most rabid supporters of a “trans gun ban”, are, self professed one or more of the following, MAGA/Republican/Conservative/Christians/Veterans.
Some have accused me of being “gay”, when I remind them of due process rights. Others that I’m a LGB alphabet soup “supporter”, and all I did was point out everyone has Constitutional rights, including Second Amendment and due process rights.
Are these people, who seem to pull their hair out, when I bring up “due process”, are they the majority of 2A supporters, of American gun owners? Or are they just the loudest guys in the room? I don’t know. But it’s a disturbing trend, and, extremely ironic. Sometime ago, we were all furious when Obama wanted to disarm “bitter clingers”, we all screamed “But the Constitution! The 1st and 2nd Amendments!” How very right we were. Yet, now many of those same people who said then and now how sacred the Constitution is want to unilaterally ban a class of people from being able to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights without even a hint of due process. Ironic isn’t it?
I’ve brought up to some, “If it’s trans today who get their rights stripped away without due process, what will happen when Trump’s gone, and there’s Newsom or someone like him in the White House?”.
Yeah that goes over well too. A chorus of “That’ll never happen!” and “There’ll never be another Democrat in the White House!” and I saw one post “Trump ’28”- yes, “Trump ’28”. And then some, lay in with personal attacks.
Some say they don’t want to be around trans who have guns and want them disarmed, because they’re violent. When my bringing up due process doesn’t seem to ring any bells for them, I’ve on several occasions, pointed out the following, “All arms laws are un-Constitutional. If you want change, it begins in the home. Where’s the family? Where’s the church leaders? If you want change, why not ban the “trans” brainwashing and the “gender affirming healthcare” and the surgical mutilations and poisonous drugs which go with it?”.
No one’s replied back when I’ve written something like that. I guess it’s a little too simple. Or perhaps a little too uncomfortable to think that true cultural change begins in the home, with the family. That involves work. And we all know the majority of conservatives and gun owners would much rather scream at their t.v. and whine online than do something meaningful. The old ’60s/’70s, pejorative “reactionary” didn’t come out of no where. It’s still well deserved.
I’ve pointed out too, “How can one claim the Constitution and 2A must be protected, yet argue for banning an entire group of people from having their 2A rights without due process?”
That, again is met with silence.
One reader, on one site, who claims to have been a career military officer and worked with JAG, and also claims to be Trump/MAGA/Republican/Christian, brought up how checking the “non-binary” option on the 4473 is “self incriminating”.
When I replied with, words to the effect of, “That’s a bad way to start your argument. If you’re a 2A supporter, then you know the 4473 is un-Constitutional period. And to say it’s self incriminating, how? Where was the court, judge, doctors, social workers? Where was the hearing? Where was the due process?”.
Crickets.
GOA and the NRA have released statements against the Trump admin’s idea. That’s good. Once again, I don’t know if these people online that I’ve seen have the majority or minority opinion. But it appears a fair number want a “trans gun ban”.
The fact is, we, the 2A movement, can’t cling to one portion of the Constitution, while pretending to be blind to another portion.
The “trans” issue, is a problem, on many levels. True change begins in the home and spreads outward. The fact is we have a rotten culture, on every level, and the “trans” issue is but a symptom of that. Yet we mustn’t sacrifice the Bill Of Rights, because the 2A movement, to one degree or another, is having an emotional and knee jerk- AKA liberal reaction to an evil event where children were murdered and wounded by a evil man at a church.
The Constitution’s an all or nothing proposition.
Equip, train, pray and never disarm.
